Founded in 1805, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester is Switzerland’s oldest symphony orchestra. Based in the Lucerne Culture and Convention Center, its concerts and prize-winning CD recordings have brought it international esteem. The orchestra gives regular guest performances in the cultural centres of Europe, Asia and America. One of its focal points is the promotion of contemporary music. As the orchestra for operatic performances at the Lucerne Theatre and a partner of both the Lucerne Festival and the city’s school of music, it makes a significant contribution to Lucerne’s musical life. With its outreach programme it has been working for an inclusive culture for many years.
