Founded in 1877, the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen is Eastern Switzerland’s professional orchestra, numbering around seventy musicians from more than twenty countries. The orchestra’s principal venue is the Tonhalle St. Gallen. Dating from 1909, it is the finest concert hall in the Lake Constance region. With its varied concert programme (symphony concerts, chamber music, education) and its involvement in musical theatre at the Theater St. Gallen and the St. Gallen Festival, the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen plays an outstanding role in the musical life of the region and the nation. Otto Tausk from the Netherlands has been its principal conductor since the 2012/2013 season.
